Don't get much sun here, I live in UK so have to rely on UVB bulb and supplements most days. There's no secure area outside. What I usually do when the sun is out is hold him directly under the sun and rely on his body language to let me know when he's had enough...if he stays still I assume he's okay, then I soak him right after to rehydrate him
