I know these topics pop up regularly on here, but I just wanted to see if one of the more " in the know" members could help. I've had Peaches for just over a year and always believed it was a "she". But when I picked get up earlier she seemed to have a much larger tail than I've seen before. She wasn't about to poop or anything, and I've never seen a flash of boy bits, just curious. Here is a shot of the area.... Thanks in advance! [TURTLE]ImageUploadedByTortForum1396816992.543982.jpg

Post a pic of the tail area but from the bottom shell, plastron. A quick guess, only seeing the tail, I would guess a male

That's what I thought. I'll need to get a pic in the morning as it's 11:55pm here in the UK. And I'm off to watch Wrestlemania!!

I'll post another picture when she wakes up in the morning. Thanks.

As Wellington requested, here are a couple more shots. With my limited knowledge, I too am thinking I have a laddie, not lady!! If so...say hello to Hulk!!

Well that's the 3rd person to confirm it, not that I doubted anyone, but you know how sometimes the angle isn't great! Well I guess I now have a male! And I think a name change is in order...... Funny thing is , HE( sounds weird saying that) has never flashed me whilst having a soak...it was only the last couple of days I noticed the tail was much bigger than first thought.

Thanks to the guys who came in here to help me. Much appreciated. I'm off to give HIM a cigar and some Jack Daniels to celebrate !! [TURTLE]

With these guys there is hardly room for doubt. The female will have a teeny tiny tail with an * while the male has a HUGE gross tail with a ! When they are young it can be difficult to tell sometimes as the males will have a smaller tail but as they get larger and older there is NO doubt.

That's definitely the case here! When I got him this time last year I was told he was female. Being a newbie I didn't know better, but after being on here every day and seeing all the different info my mind started to wander...hey, he is a great tortoise anyway. Full of life. 7 1/2 inches head to toe and always eating and soaks well. Can't complain. Just need to treat him more manly and not sit with him on the sofa watching Peppa Pig now!! Thanks again for your help. It makes no difference to how I care for him, just good to know.

PS...can you believe this happened with a kitten we got too?! We were told we were given a girl and put her to vet to be spayed, but turned out it was a he and he needed neutered!! I don't have a great track record with sexing animals!!!
