Hey! I have a little Russian tortoise and we go outside often, and I wanted to crochet him this to find him easily! Is it okay for him? I don’t know if he would like it on his shell. I would take it off after we are done outside :)

It seems silly to me, but I don't see any harm in it.

-Do be careful as the tortoise can easily slip out of that and disappear.

-When taking the tortoise outside, the tortoise should be in a well designed, escape proof, safe enclosure at all times. At no time should the tortoise just be out loose in the yard. If you do that, you will eventually lose your tortoise, and it feels awful. Everyone who does this thinks they are watching closely and that nothing bad will happen. All of them were correct right up until the day they were wrong, and then it was too late. Don't learn this lesson the hard way.

Probably the hardest part is trying to put it on. Also, remember that he won't benefit from the natural UVB from the sun if he is wearing anything.

It can help if you crochet multiple size options into the underside band where you button it up. Not sure if that makes sense. Some people use elastic like you would use in a waist band but a thinner version and then you can adjust it so that it's appropriately snug and not so loose that it's sliding around. I've also seen people crochet things and that they can attach a leash to or even a helium balloon 🎈 My tortoise has a Bowser outfit but he only wears it when I want to annoy him with a photo session 🤣

As others have mentioned, unsupervised outdoor time in an area that isn't secure and safe is generally a recipe for losing your tortoise 🐢
