Jackson ratio

So since Carl is a Hermann's, I've been using the Jackson ratio to see where he's at weight vs. length wise. Today I measured him and he's at .176 on the ratio. I know that ideally a tort should be between .19 and .21. Since I measured him about a week ago, Carl has grown almost half a centimeter, but actually lost a gram.

Should I take the Jackson ratio this seriously or is it more of a rough guideline?

Carl's definitely been eating up a storm but I did weigh him today before he ate breakfast which I usually wait until after.

Ditto, especially for hatchling and small tortoises.

When you take length and weight, be sure you do it exactly the same each time (i.e. before or after feeding, soaking, etc.).
