Near my apartment I have mountain-ash (Sorbus aucuparia), silver birch (Betula pendula) and Eurasian aspen (Populus tremula) I find the latter the most beautiful during the fall. Of course I also have fir trees near me. Not much leaves end up in my balcony, since it is a glazed balcony, but I have found birch leaves the most common to get carried inside with my shoes or clothes.

I have 4 trees in my yard, all fruitless mulberry and one small only 3 years old magnolia I pull the leaves off the mulberry each fall to feed thru winter. The magnolia leaves stay in the tortoise yard. However, because my yard is so big for a city lot, it's almost 3 city lots, everyone else's leaves around me finds my yard, ugh
So I get magnolia from my neighbors giant tree and walnut from across the street, and one giant leaf I have no idea where it's from or what it is. It looks like a maple leaf but at least 3 times the size. My driveway is like a wind tunnel, so all the leaves collect there and eventually come thru the gate and into my yard. My neighbors magnolia litters my deck and hot tub area. They are a pain in the arse when none of them are my trees.

I have California pepper trees, mesquite, creosote, acacia trees, a palo verde, and tamarisk trees (saltcedar). The tamarisk trees are ugly and terrible water hogs. One tree uses about 200 gallons per day, so I'm letting mine die. I don't know what I'll put in their place. There's 4 of them. Since it almost never rains here, I'm just not watering them.

As for leaves, none of them drop their leaves in the fall. They may lose a few, but overall they stay on until a wind storm will rip them loose.

This is a small sampling but it proves out my initial theory. Most of us have 4-6 types of trees on our property. This has been true in every place I have lived too, until I came here!

We only have 1/2 acre of land yet we have 9 types of leaves, just on the deck....PLUS the red berry Hollys in the back & side, Beech, black walnut out front with, sasafrass, Dogwood and another type of oak and another nut producing tree....all growing naturally.

It's pretty neat.....until now when they all come down.........searching for a leaf raking service! LOL

I broke out my leaf blower for the 1st time just yesterday. My 2 cherry trees and walnut tree have shed their leaves already. My 3 huge maples, Japanese maple, and redbud are playing with me this year and are hanging onto their leaves longer. City leaf pickup starts next week of course.

Haha, I would like to note that evergreens here in Finland might mess up my answer. There are at least six large fir trees and two pine trees on this property.

The giant leaf you mentioned which looks similar to a maple leaf could be a sycamore leaf.

Leaves leaves leaves. Hybrid Poplar, Holly, Fig, White Oak, Willow Oak, Red Maple, Regular Maple, Tulip Poplar, Mulberry, Eastern Red Cedar.

Lots of good mulch gets tossed away this time of year. 😩
