About a month ago i bought an all in one, artificial sun light bulb for my tort. And now sometimes the bulb flashes on and off. The bulb said it should last atleast a year. Do you guys think its the bulb or the ballast? I dont want to go buy anything i dont need. :) Thanks for the help!

Its an exo terra bulb.

This sometimes happens with the MVBs. Often it is due to overheating and you have to make sure you are using the right kind of hood.

I'd take it back the store for an exchange. If they give you any crap, just buy a new one, then go home put the old one in the new package and return with the fresh receipt the next day.

MVBs are self ballasted and its all in one. Are you using a remote ballasted lamp? When you said all in one, I assumed a mercury vapor bulb, but now it seems we are talking about a fluorescent tube. Sorry about that. Could be the bulb, ballast or the starter. You will have to eliminate each one as a possibility to find the problem.

Sounds like the ballast if a tube bulb. However its always good to change those out about every 6 months or so anyways for the optimum UVB given off by the bulb.

Its not a tube bulb, more like a huge house bulb. I think i am just going to take it back and see what happens.
