Live plants in tortoise cage

I was wondering if a Russian tortoise can eat mazus. I'm thinking of putting a pot of it in my tortoise enclosure and letting it grow wiled.

Good idea?

also he needs some sort of live plant in there for comfort (because its winter in Chicago!)

any other plant suggestions? (preferably ones that spread)

The only spreading plant that comes to mind is pothos, but I'm not sure I'd put that in with a Russian as it's a tropical vine. We use it for redfoots, but they evolved with it... it does contain some alkaloids as secondary defense compounds.
