egyption is a very rare species and very expensive. Not sure if you can find anyone who wants to give the tortoise for adoption even with a low rehoming fee

She agreed to do a plan with me and then randomly told me she’s giving the tortoises somewhere else. Even though we had been talking about them for 3/4 days

If no official documents or signed and or monies have exchanged hands I don't think that's a breech of anything. Maybe she found a better offer that suited her current situation more and went with it. That's usually how it is in business. First come, first serve. Especially when it comes to hatchlings and other specimens that are often priced by a specified time-frames and or categories which can trend downwards depending on how many days or months have passed.

And I understand that but the fact that she said she would do it. The reason i couldnt get them yet was because i was getting their cages buily and im waiting on the person building them. She agreed, we talked, she sent me videos, and etc.

And I too understand what you must be going through. Small family operation breeders have only so much eggs hatch at a given time unlike the mega and usually disreputable breeders/dealers you find on other websites where they'll do just about anything to find cheap tortoises in order to turn them around for a quick profit. Small operation breeders don't have the margins to compete so whatever business they get they need to constantly put back into their operation. So it's understandable how a small operation would likely sell to someone that'll be able to pay the full listed price instantly over someone that wishes to use a payment plan instead. They probably feel bad but it's also in their best interest and their operations to do so. I suggest trying again to see whether they're able to accommodate you if specimen quality is important to you.

The good thing is that the tables you're having built will eventually be used. You can now take your time to have them built and able to re-research more stuff about the particular tortoise breeds you're after. Maybe read more guides from this forum in case you weren't already doing so. Maybe you wanna double check what type of heating and lighting fixtures you'll need that are safe and not harmful to said the tortoise breed you're after.

To add:

I've also been given the "brush off" by a number of tortoise re-homers back when I first started amassing my own tortoise creep. Some were too demanding or some were too uncaring. Just gotta keep trying sooner or later you get lucky.

Thank you very much for this comment. I had several people inquiring and even sending me money full price. If no official documents or signed and or monies have exchanged hands I don't think that's a breech of anything. Thank you. i appreciate it.

I was selling some pipe fencing panels. The price I put up for them was pretty reasonable. I received a phone call and the folks were planning to come get the panels in about an hour. No money received yet; no contract signed; just a verbal agreement over the phone. In the meantime, someone else called and offered me more money. At first I agreed, but then I realized I had already made a commitment to the first telephone caller, so I told the second people no, they were sold.

It's not illegal to sell something out from under the first responder, however, it's a moral issue.

I don't believe your example is quite as similar as the situation they may have had. (Unless there's more to the story?)

For one, no one made a trip to anywhere in their case. The buyer in their example didn't need the seller to travel anyway to pick the specimen up so the seller didn't waste or nothing.

Two, the time frame for accepting and shipping the tortoises and what not weren't as razor thin as yours was. The buyer most likely was still not close to the shipping stage before they ended up changing their mind. The first buyer on your situation, however, was probably close to on their or have already made the necessary plans to do so, clearing out their schedule of that day.

The point I was making was I accepted the first person's offer. Any subsequent offers should have been told, "sorry, it's sold"

I understand and in your shoes I probably would've done the same because I would've felt bad for the 1st buyer possibly making the trip for nothing.

But if I had a bigger time frame like say the 1st buyer is saying that the earliest they come get it is in a month's time and I needed that space cleared, you best believe that I'll be looking for a second or third option. In short, maybe it's a unique type of situation that's deeper than it seems.
