Hello and welcome. Have you found a turtle/tortoise rescue in your area yet? What species are you looking for? Does mom really want the commitment of another tortoise right away? When my Mothers dog passed, she didn't want another dog. As a pragmatist, sometimes I ask inappropriate questions at the wrong time, but my biggest concern is for the well being of the animals. So, do you know why her other one died? Most turtles and tortoises live for a VERY long time. Over 100 years in many cases. I would just want to make sure whatever happened to her recent one doesn't happen again. Personally, I have made mistakes in the past that cost my beloved animals their lives. I always want to help others avoid the terrible pain and guilt of this sort of tragedy.

Sorry for your loss and good luck finding Mom a new friend.

It looks like you are in the same area as me. Go to tortoise.org and fill out an application for the Chino chapter. Mail it in and be patient! There are usually sulcatas available, but not always right away. Good luck!
