Hey guys!
My 4 year old sully has started to make these strange squelch sounds, he seems fine in himself, eating fine, poo and weeing fine as well.

The sound is very similar to the sound they make when they suddenly hide in their shell but the squelch sounds like him peeing but he isn't.....any ideas?

Need more info. Any drainage from the nose? Any sneezing sounds. Labored breathing? What are your temps? Is your tort indoors or outdoors?

He is in an indoor enclosure but outside for a good 2-5hours a day weather pending....temps are between 80-87....and no discharge, nothing abnormal about breathing everything seems fine....now that I have posted this he hasn't made a squelch sound at all this evening lol

One of my babies used to make a croaking or barking like sound every now and then. Never did figure it out. He did it for the first month I had him and the stopped.

My 8.5 lb sulcata has done this a couple times. I know what you're talking about. Mine acts normal and is healthy too.

Mine makes this sound as well, not sure why but the vet said not to worry about it. Still, it is an unpleasant sound...

My tort is only 3 years old and weighs 4 pounds so not sure if this is related to age or not. I guess if it is not uncommon then I feel a little bit better!

I'm laughing too [FACE SAVOURING DELICIOUS FOOD] but mine is because I still laugh from the ketchup bottle farting [SMILING FACE WITH OPEN MOUTH AND SMILING EYES]

Laughed so hard the dog came running.....I so do this too---my son gets so embarrassed.......but hey, what is honestly funnier than a burp or fart----especially in the most inappropriate time...(I should clarify, if the burp or fart comes from someone else that is....lol) :p

Funny Angela. You made me laugh:D

Aside from all members who have experienced these sounds coming from their torts, let me remind you that torts don't make those types of sounds just for the fun of it. Whether it's a painful wind bubble, or trapped gas, pain is pain. On the other hand, and this goes directly to the OP, a stone in the bladder can also cause a tort to make those sounds when attempting to pee.

I personally experienced this with my tort. I took him to the vet and asked him to x-ray him. Sure enough, the stone was 1 inch in diameter which was bigger than his little pelvis, and had to be surgically removed. So, the next time your tort makes those sounds, don't be too quick to dismiss it. I dismissed it for three months. All the while, my poor baby was in so much pain. Btw, he totally acted normal and was eating, pooping and peeing some until, one day, he stopped and only cried out in pain.

I also have heard loud wind expelled from black mountains , but was embarrassed to post ,it is long and loud ,reverberating. I guess I'm not crazy or hearing things . Respectfully , this noise is not of pain , just a long juicy , I guess all is well .

just a long juicy

Is that anything like a wet whistler????:p

Please don't think I am making light of potential problems....but I know that folks sometimes thing torts don't make noises from time to time---that simply is not true....if your tort is showing any signs of distress while making the noise you hear...then by all means there may be a problem...but if your tort is just tooting along and does not seem distressed..."I" would not fret straight away....

Same thing happened to my Patita, took him to the vet when he was making frequent grunt noises at night. Vet did an x-ray and they found a small bladder stone and was backed up with a lot of poop! the Vet injected him with fluids and luckily the stone was small enough for him to pass.

The only sound my tort makes is that whoosh when he sucks into his shell. He seems to make this noise when he runs out of treats too, like he is annoyed with me.
