so our baby sulcata keeps marching up and down the left side of its enclosure. it cant see because its a wooden enclosure. theres food. theres water. theres a hot and cold end.

and he has a private spot

so why the marching?
is he stressed?

i think that is just what they do... my baby used to make circles around his enclosure like he was a nascar driver. are you sure he cant see over the walls? how high are the sides?

Is this a new enclosure? If so maybe he is just checking it out. He may be just be going for a walk and getting some exercise too. My baby has also been known to do laps around the enclosure sometimes, I think he's just working out :) Just part of his usual routine.

In the wild they do walk a lot, maybe it is just instinct could be boredom also.

In the wild they walk all day. They stop and eat here then they walk, they take a bite here and then they walk ,they stop and eat here and then they walk. they don't walk for just a bit, they walk for miles. So the instinct from years and years and eons of family is that they walk a lot. Your baby is doing exactly what is hardwired into his brain from eons of family...walk and walk and walk...ad infinitum and did I say they walk a lot???

My Dudley has a path worn all along the fence line.

You can't see it in the picture, but on the other side of the little tree there are two bare lines just like tire tracks from his feet. On this side of the tree it all blends together in one big path. Sometimes he goes around the tree and sometimes he goes between the tree and the fence. He's on patrol!!

Hahaha, Yvonne, that is a very illustrative photograph.;)

The poor little tree by the path looks a bit stressed, though!:p
