So my son decided he wanted a turtle and I have always loved them, seeing as I had a Florida soft shell for years. I finally settled on an Eastern musk turtle

Please meet Emet!

He is the most teenie thing ever!!

I just can't believe how teenie he is! This is straight out of the shipping container



And here is his home


The lights are more centered now. That was taken a week or so before he went in while I tweaked his lamps and started cycling it. He also now has a CHE on therm set to 73 just in case my house temp drops, so the chances of it coming on are pretty low, but just on case. I do the same for my beardie
I also made the lid so I would have the lamps on top and the canister filter tube still go in

Hahaha true! But see, I knew if I get my 13yr old a pet, it'll be mine anyway, so win win
I get to be the nice mom that got him a turtle, but then I get the enjoyment out of it once he forgets it exists. I can then say we'll, what about the turtle if he wants something else

Please make sure Emet has a flat, stable area near the surface that is partly covered. He needs to be able to rest and sleep close enough to the surface so that all he has to do is lift his head.
What worked really well for Nelson was: I bought a new terracotta flower pot, filled it with rocks, siliconed in several stems of broad leafed plastic plants, and PRESTO: a safe, comfy turtle bed!

He definitely has a bunch of places he can do that
I have 3 different basking places that are both in and out as well as that that log has places it almost comes out and all those. I had to adjust all of those because he was much smaller than I thought lol

I don't think any of us ever get over that part of turtle husbandry. I still constantly think about my little Russian after almost 15 years.. I have a Mobi baby cam on him now though.
