hello everyone, thought id fill people in on how mollies doing as we did have concerns with her, one big issue with her when we got her in september was her not eating, her weight was going down, was advised to use panacur worm treatment just to rule that out so we did, i also could not get her to stay in her bath, never seen her drink either,so was worried about dehydration, i since have discovered that if i wake her kindly in the morning and place her in warm water she stays still in it! guess it warms her quicker:D the breeder i got her from told me to try komodo pellets.... and she is eating and her weight is coming back on! next i think i will mush all her weeds up together with them and warmish water....wish me luck might transform her yet!

Great! What type of Komodo pellets? If they have any grains, fruits, sugars, artificial colors, etc, I would try to wean her off those and replace with good foods a little at a time. I like Mazuri Tortoise Diet or Grassland Tortoise Food best of the pellets of I've seen, but of course fresh is best. So glad to hear things have turned around. Did you get a fecal test done to test for parasites, or just give the dewormer?

yeah ive been trying to get mazuri but not had any luck, i live in the uk and its just rubbish for reptile things, i treated her with a low dose the vet ordered for her, i dont know of any reptile vet in my area would prefer to take her any time to someone that knows what they are doing and not have to ask the zoo for advice!

Great news Nicky! I'm in the UK too. My personal view is that pellet foods are good for tortoises that are recuperating from illness or to gain weight quickly following a problem of some kind but not good as a long term option. Once you get Mollie back on track I would suggest you might introduce some natural foods like Kate says.

This forum is good and has an international angle to it which is important. Having said that if you want to find certain foods or reptile equipment and stuff in the UK then you might want to check out this place :

Very large membership and active forums. Not everyone's cup of tea but might be worth a lookover!
