Just keep an eye on it. I used something similar for a brief time but the sand was getting into my Russians eyes so I had to change it out. Now I use 100% Coco Coir and have had no problems.

This is what it says on the 'net about Tortoise Life substrate:

Originating from arid habitats
A 50:50 mixture of high quality top soil and play sand
With a little limestone grit added
It is also suitable for many species of lizards

I have never used this product, and I don't think I ever would because of the limestone grit. I don't want to encourage my tortoise to eat anything in the substrate for fear he might also ingest the sand and dirt.

If I were setting up my habitat, like yours is, I would get rid of the hay and instead use sphagnum moss, which I have moistened a little bit. Then I would use small grade orchid bark for the overall substrate. Lots of folks here use coconut coir for substrate because they don't like the bark.

That's a pretty nice habitat you've got there. I really like it. Can you add a few fake plants to make it a little more 'crowded'? The plants help diffuse the light, plus it gives the tortoise something to have to walk around in order to see the other side.

Sweet little one! Might also make the substrate a tad deeper. I personally think 50% is too high a level of sand. :(

I use sand before but become a problem very soon. The sand got into everything, food, water, eyes........

I use partial tile and partial Coco coil are much better.
