As subject said, my sulcata just threw up. It's the first time it's happened and I don't know what to do about it. What does it mean? The tortoise is a little over a year old.

There are a lot of experienced breeders here on the forum who can guide you much better than myself, just trying to give your thread a bump.
If you give details about your tort's diet, enclosure, substrate, lights, heat and humidity levels it will probably offer mire insight to those with more tort knowledge and help you figure out the problem.
Do you have a reptile vet?
Best of luck

Yes I have a reptile vet.
It's fairly dry in his enclosure, but I bathe him once a week and a little water dish in there of course. No substrate it's the reptile carpeting. He's about palm size and his box is about 2 ft. His throw up had like a tan with lettuce in it. Nothing hard that I noticed. His diet is romaine lettuce 3 times a week and the rest it mostly grasses and flowers and an fruits like strawberry once a week. I heard frm the pet store that u want to feed them fruit sparingly. Any input would be great

He really really really needs a quality substrate and a humid hide. Being that little I would definitely suggest soaking him more. How hot is his enclosure? Basking spot temp? Do you give him a multi vitamin or cuttle bone?
Little ones gets dehydrated very easily when they don't have the proper humidity, soaks and temps. I personally only offer fruit once a month as a treat.

His temp range is 97 in hot spot and 70 in the rest. What substrate would u recommend? I use the cuddlebone

I had no idea they could throw up. Hmm. I agree with TaraDodrill. I soak my sully almost every single day. Maybe the "carpet" made him sick??

Could be but he's been in there for a year, wouldn't it have made him sick before????
I'm gonna switch up the enclosure and see if that doesn't change n e thing, the pet store said to keep it dry in there. I guess they were wrong lol

I have heard others use regular soil from the gardening store (get one without added pesticides and chemical fertilizers, but natural fertilizers are good). You could also look in to coconut coir, which can be bought pretty cheaply in brick form. You soak the brick so it falls apart in to dirt-like stuff.

Tortoises are not really designed to throw up, like other animals can. So there are several things that could be wrong, he simply could have gotten hold of something that disagreed with him. on the other hand he could be sick with something. Sorry for being so vauge but only a vet can really help, for now I would increase her soaks 2 to 3 times a week won't hurt, if your tortoise is still eating well and is otherwise active, and he does not repeat this incident with another vomiting episode, then I would not worry to much. He may have recently decided to try the carpet and he could have rejected it, tortoises often try and eat everything (like kids) that is why it is crucial to have a substrate that if they decide to try and eat it, it can pass easily.

He's still eating regular and is still active.
I put some coconut fiber stuff in there for his hide and he hasn't thrown up again

I would get rid of the carpet and use all coconut coir mixed with a soil and even cypress mulch, it is a HUGE misunderstanding that because they are a desert species people/pet stores keep them dry, these guys, especially the little ones need to be hot and humid.
