Can you tell me what type of turtle? It has 4 toes hind; 5 toes front. Nails are long/skinny. The underside is yellow and black. No hinge yet (if a box). 2yrs old. Size of my palm. Back of shell drags while walkin; back legs sprawled out.

Hi, when you say back of the shell dragging/legs sprawled out, do you mean he can't support his body weight with his legs? That's worrisome. Where did you get him?

From what I can tell, he looks a little bit like a young box turtle with shell markings like some 3-toed boxies I've seen, but the water is distorting the photo a little bit, so I'm not positive. Hopefully someone else will chime in.

I don't think its a box turtle either. Looks like some sort of water turtle, and water turtles sort of move like that on land.

Is this from a pet store or something you found? If you found it outside- what part of the world/country are you in. It might help narrow things down.

Her college age daughter brought them home shortly after they hatched (not sure who she got them from). She kept them in a tank of water (like RES) for the first few weeks until she figured out they were not 100% water turtles. They spend a great deal of time soaking in water dish(hours). Sometimes they sun in the sand. They also love to burrow in the coconut substrate mixed with moss. They eat 50/50 bugs/protein and fruit/veggies. More pics are attached - Can anyone tell what they could be? I don't know where in the country they are from. Someone once told the previous owner they looked like a mix between golf coast and three toed. In my limited experience and massive amounts of research, I disagree. I have been trying to figure out what they are for months. They don't seem to be the run-of-the-mill pet store variety. We have taken awesome care of them and they have been thriving with us since they came home.

Type of Turtle??? HELP!

I posted yesterday about these turtles but needed more pics. Not sure if my reply worked. Got these from a co-worker, who got them as hatchlings, and gave them away after a year. They are still so small, no hinge, spend hours soaking in water, sleep burrowed in coconut substrate, sun in the sand, eat 50/50 protein-fruit-veggies (LOVE bugs, worms, etc), 4 hind toes, 5 front. Someone once said they look like a cross between golf coast and three-toed but in my time of research and getting acquainted w/ them, I disagree but could be wrong. It took me five months to finally ask on this forum. They are happy and healthy but I want to be able to provide them with more species specific stimulation. Please Help! What are they?

I'll bet its a wood turtle. They are protected in their range. I'm trying to remember its latin name.

The chin/neck color is a dead giveaway. I vote Blanding's. Good eye, Baoh!
