Always gave my torts the whole backyard but its a pain hunting for them on cold winter nights. So I'm building an enclosure. Just started digging up grass. Wanted to mulch it and plant a bunch of stuff so it just looks like a landscaped area. Any suggestions? Plants or anything?

RE: New encodure

Hostas mine lies to hide in them and they can eat them. They spread quickly too.

What a pretty fence. I want one!!!

Rose of Sharon is always good. The flowers fall and the tortoises eat them, also the leaves are edible.

Thanks. Our HOA requires these fences.

Anybody have experience with tort ponds? I was going to make a shallow pond for them too.

I made a tort pond. A very small one. I dug a hole and put PVC pipe down it and then I put a bathroom sink stopper in it from homedepot. The stopper pushes down to hold the water, then I just pop it up to empty it. For the pond, I just poured cement in a shallow hole I had dug out.

Oh so it's basically a cement pond with a drain? That's a pretty good idea. Maybe I'll try that. Maybe I could imbed rocks into it to make it look more natural.

Figured I'd post a little update.

So I'm sorta done with the pond. I decided to make a wood frame instead of using rocks. The frame was only about 10 bucks and rocks in FL aren't real cheap. Pry switch to rocks eventually but what do you think?
