Hey all got a new Hermanns yesterday, he's totally awesome!!

I've never heard a tortoise make any noises, but this little guy while spending some time browsing clovers in the yard looked at me and made a little barking noise, did it twice and went back to eating...

It was similar to the noise you hear in the videos of them mating.

Only thing I can conclude is maybe he was just very happy to be outside eating fresh food..

Has any one experienced anything like this? Or does any one know why he would do this?

He's about 2 years old I'm told. Looking male but I'm not 100%.

Thanks guys!!

Sure. Hide nearest the camera there is a humid hide, however I close up the green house tent at night to maintain about 85% RH.

Very cute tortoise. I had an eastern and a western Herman tortoise. My rescue eastern (not in great condition) made a whistling noise. So I bumped up his temperature, and gave him longer soaks. It went away. An expert should steer you in the right direction.

Adorable!! What’s their name?🥰

Do I notice a cheeky blueberry on the substrate there?😬
These guys are unfortunately not made the digest fruit properly, I wouldn’t recommend you feed any moving forward.
I’d also be careful directly feeding off the bark, it may encourage them to swallow pieces, it’s always best to place food on a large serving slate🙂

Yeah I only gave him that one as a treat, his meals are served in a food dish though.
I'll make sure all food is fed on his bowl going forward though.

Haven't yet decided on a name yet. Open to suggestions :)
