Poor little thing. Her beak's not too bad. Grazing and eating off a rough spot will trim that down in no time. But she is suffering from MBD real bad as is evidenced in the shape of her carapace, her legs and the way she carries herself. It would be a very good idea to lightly dust her every meal with calcium powder and keep a cuttlebone in her habitat at all times for free choice calcium.

She is one lucky tortoise to have been put into your life and taken out of her previous one. You should feel very good about your "rescue."

Poor lady :(. She will be much happier with you. I hope proper care will help soothe some of the pain that she's in. My hat's off to you for rescuing her. Keep us updated.

Jessica,

I'm glad you have her now, ditto what Yvonne and Meg said.

Crazy thing is that she said she was dusting every meal. Maybe she lied or maybe her husband lied. Her husband is the one who feeds her every morning and he seems like kinda a jack***. Also she gave me the calcium she uses which looks like its ten years old or older and it contains VitaminD3. I just threw it out. I think some natural sunlight and a better varitey of food will help. I'm worried now cuz I never even thought of MBD. I had a beardie with it and she didn't live very long. Well I'll make sure she enjoys the rest of her life to the fullest. I'll have to get a video though. Strangest thing, when I lift her her legs go straight out, normal, but when I set her down I have to do it real slow cuz her legs just stay stuck out. And I can tell she hasn't ever really been outside cuz its like the sky freaks her out. I'll make her better! I just rehabilitated a Frilled Dragon and now I'm rehabing a Leopard gecko and now a Leopard Tort. It's no wonder I'm so busy... hehehe

The thing is, you can feed a tortoise all the calcium in the world, but without the sun or a UVB light, the calcium doesn't do its job. You have to have both...sun/calcium.

Something that also caught my eye is that she has no smooth new growth. After a shell has pyrimded and you atempt to fix the problem you should have new growth that is smooth and not more pyrimiding. I also found out from my mom that when this lady first got the tort she was taking it to the vet for vitamin K shots. ??? I haven't looked this up yet but what the heck is that for. And I noticed she is a heavy breather. This worries me because I dont need a tort with an RI. How do you make a leo's enclosure have any humidity? Would just a humid hide work?

Vit K is a blood clotter. They give that when an animal has gotten into mouse poison.

What a poor, but very beautiful tortoise. I look forward to seeing pictures of how she has improved in the years to come.

Hi...Are you sure it wasn't vitamin A shots? Some vets give them when turtles' eyes get cloudy...tho they shouldn't.
Just be aware that it is a slow process to get her better. Don't get discouraged. Thank God for people like you.
Good luck
Patsy
