Our new sully arrived via ups yesterday. I wanted to post pictures to share. I think he/she appears healthy and active. We are thrilled!

Hi, and welcome to the Forum!!

It's always fun to get a new tortoise and your new little guy is a real cutie pie. We have some great reading for you at the top of the Sulcata section under "Important Threads." Read them and learn how to give your new tortoise a good start in life.

Thanks everyone! I've been reading the forum for awhile now though I only signed up today! Tom, I used both of your links while preparing for our newest family member. Thanks so much. It was so informative as most pet stores in Louisiana know very little about housing a Sulcata...we actual had to enlighten them;) I'm soaking him twice a day for 10-15 minutes at a time being that he was shipped from Florida. We are heading out to get a humidity reader because that's the only problem I'm having...yes even in Louisiana:) He's active, eating, curious, and exploring his habitat. I find he stays on the warmer side of the habitat (90-97)more than the cooler side (80-85). Is that normal? Should his hutch be on the warmer side or cooler side? Thanks for any info!!!!

Awesome! Well good luck with the little one. I actually got 2 babies 2 weeks ago and I'm IN LOVE! Just waiting for some Warner weather so they can play. :)

Getting a humidity reader is a great idea and a sound investment. Even in climates that consistently have high humidity the heating and basking lamps we use in our indoor enclosures will dry the air out. Once your tortoise is a little older the high humidity outdoors will be a big plus. You live in a great area to raise a sulcata.
