hello, I am so sorry but I am new to tortoise forums and don't know how to ask a question by not commenting on someone elses post.
I noticed that my Herman tortoise straightened her back legs today which never usually happens is there something wrong?

Hi Hermanhelp:

Welcome to the forum!!

I've moved your question to the Hermann's section where more people will see it and respond. For future reference, when you want to start a new thread, all you have to do is go to the top of the screen and click on "forums." Then find the subject that fits your question (in this case "hermann's") and click on "new topic." You just fill in a subject line and type your question.

May we know your name and where you are?

Not much information to go by. How old (how big) is she? Does she do this while basking under a heat source or in other areas? Without having much more information I can tell you that my Hermann's of all ages will often lay flat on their plastrons and stretch their rear legs outward and at the same time often (but not always), splay their front feet out to the sides. They'll most often do this while basking under a heat source. It's believed that this is done in order to absorb more heat into the body through the limbs.

Like GB said, mine do this when absorbing heat under a basking lamp or in the sun. Very funny looking, and at times they look dead.

We call it the "CSI position" when they bask like that, all they need is white tape around them and the effect would be complete.

Our Ca Desert Tortoises do this pose (especially our old man) we say....Humphry is playing dead tortoise....his head along with all legs are so stretched out...his head extends out so far that his head lays flat chin to the ground...makes me envious at how totally comfortable he looks.....ah imagining it now :}
