well we figured that when i bought this different substrate from a reptile store it had mites in it. but there are also many other ways like taking something from outside and putting it in there or not cleaning something. like food when you feed him/her.

how do they get mites?

cypress and some other substrates can contain small amounts of living organisms in it! not really a bad thing, almost acts like a bioactive substrate!

mites? are you referring to those little tiny black buggies that accumulate under lets say, potted plants on the porch---you know, when you suddenly lift the plant and bam, you see the little tiny buggies scamper? If yes, then yeah, it is near impossible to get rid of them entirely, they love dirt/cool/plant matter....don't think they are a huge harm though? :p

I hate those little bugs that come when the substrate is too wet and then it dries out and theyre still there! crawling in and out of all the little spaces and under the slate...and then they turn into little flies...ugh so annoying
