Have you found someone for this little one? I might be able to help, if I can count on you all for advice when I come running. :) I live close to Edwards AFB

I may have a home for him here in my town, but I'm not real sure he's going to make it. I can't get him interested in "being alive." After his soak, he just sits in one spot. If he gets too hot, he'll move away, but not into the hide. Plus, it has been my experience that a dying tortoise gets heavy...I guess from kidney failure?? and starts retaining fluid. This little baby is way heavier than he looks like he should be.

I don't like to name my rescues. It makes it too hard if they pass while in my care. I try to not get too attached to them. So this little guy is Rescue-1 (first one this year).

Thought I'd give you an update on Rescue-1. After 6 days of soaking in baby food or vitamin water, little Res 1 came out of his house on his own this a.m. and went to the empty food dish looking for food. I quickly grabbed a handful of chopped Santa Barbara mix and put it in front of him. HE STARTED EATING ON HIS OWN!!! He's having a pretty hard time actually biting off pieces, but HE'S EATING!! I chopped it up pretty small, but I'll have to make it smaller for this little guy.

Glad to hear that the little guy is responding. Will you continue the vegetable soaks?

No, I only use them on turtles and tortoises that aren't eating. But I THINK that Danny (Egyptiandan) soaks all his babies in bird vitamin water every soak, so I may tell Res1's new keeper to do that.

Glad to hear things are finally seeming to be turning around for the little guy.

The little sulcata hatchling has been placed in a new home. Interestingly, he won't eat, or rather, he just picks at grocery store food, but eats with gusto things picked from outside (grass, clover, weeds). He's doing very well and is now a well-loved member of a family.

That's really great news. I hope we see him on TFO again someday.
