I live in South Florida and I have always loved turtles and tortoises and I finally decided to get a tortoise. I live on 1.5 fenced acres with a LOT of grass, weeds, foliage to graze. This would be my first. I would be very open to adopting a tortoise in need also. Looking forward to reading as much as I can on this forum learn all I can.

Hi and welcome! Are you thinking of any certain type(s) of tortoises you might be interested in?

Hello and welcome.

What factors are important to you in picking a species? Size, color, personality, ease of care, etc?

Welcome to the Forum!

Redfooted tortoises do well outside in Florida. They require a more humid environment, coming from South America.

Russian tortoises are good starter tortoises...very forgiving of poor care while you're learning.

Whatever species you decide on, you'll probably have to build a pen or yard for it. A tortoise could get lost very easily on an acre and a half.
