I consider myself most fortunate indeed to find these two females. The one has a head pattern as good as many males. These both have the shell pattern I look for.

Fantastic! If I couldn't see the feet or the tail of the one on the left, I would think it was a male...you rarely see them like that.
As far as the shell pattern goes...do you think it only occurs in easterns from a specific area, or can it happen in any area of their range?

Thanks, I was lucky to see the ad 4 minutes after he posted it, After I paid, he asked if I would be interested in a similar one, and there you go. He shipped right away, and they arrived this morning.He seemed to think that they were both gravid, I can't tell, but a bonus if they are.

The head pattern on that one goes all the way down on the top of the head and ends in a "V". 90% light plastron. In bright light, you can see a little color on the others head, but it's faint. Her shoulders have a faint grey on white pattern. No black at all on the plastron. I really don't know where that type of pattern comes from. I have a couplke of females that I know are fron South Carolina, though.

Beautiful! Most of mine are juveniles, so I'm not sure what they will look like yet. I'm really looking to find a couple of high red ones.

Glad to see more people getting into high-end easterns. They are under-appreciated in the reptile world, and the hobby needs high quality CB babies. It seems many of the best ones in the past have simply disappeared. I know some have disappeared into Japan.

You lucky dog! Keep that line open, he might come across more. They probably are gravid, which is probably why he found them. Try to get the locality, or at least the county they're from. I always try to do that, and usually they tell me. It's nice to know exactly where their from.

Chris (on the forum) send me an exceptional hatchling....really high yellow. I'll have to post more pic. of him. He's really beautiful.

Ha, that's the experience I've had! They never seem to be red in the photograph. The last red female I saw was on fauna classifieds about 3 years ago, and I'm still kicking myself for not getting her.
Watch out for Steve on Kingsnake. He's from New Jersey, and was selling a lot of them earlier this year. He'll claim to have what ever you're looking for, but don't believe a word of it.

Any interest in organizing some type of breeders club? Not sure exactly what that would entail, but I would like to see more of a breeding focus with box turtles. Especially these high color easterns.

Red eyes don't necessarily mean the turtle is a male. Most of the males in my study area and the surrounding meta population have pink eyes. A few I've run across have red, silver or in one instance had brown eyes.
I don't care one way or the other particularly about skin or shell color I care about genetic diversity. I have turtles who are mostly yellow, orange, black or some combination. Though I do have one that has the blue trait (if only on his chin) and one who has the green shell trait. Though several have the white trait.
