I have a beautiful Ornate Box Turtle. When I bought it, the person told me it was a male. I have looked at pictures of males versus females and now I am thoroughly confused as to it's sex.
I love your large pictures. How did you do them. I will have to take a couple better pictures of the Ornate. I think it is a she also but she has such bright eyes and orange scales on her front feet.
From what I have learned males will have red eyes and a concave plastron. I have a male, see his picture below. His name is Rusty and he is around 11 years old. Hope that helps!
Your box turtle is more than likely a male, but I'd have to see the bottom and tail area to be sure. You can't always go by the "red eye=male" school of thought because on a very rare occasion, females have been seen with red eyes.
I have a female ornate with red eyes - so you can't always go by that. I like to look at the totality of the evidence - concavity, eye color, shell shape and tail length.
