Meet Mazikeen, Maze for short (bonus points if you get the name reference!). She was adopted through SDTTS and is approximately 34.
This is my very first Desert Tortoise. I’m really thrilled to be able to share our home with her. I can’t wait to learn more about her behaviors, and get to know her.
This morning her artificial summer rain had her stomping out of her burrow and enjoying her new enclosure for about an hour. It’s going to be fully planted by the time she wakes up next year. I have lots of plans for plants, but it’s a bit bare for now (almost everything is this time of year here). She does have a 6’ pomegranate that shades her burrow from the west and some weeds starting to sprout from watering. Her enclosure is fully fenced 5’ high to keep out our dog, Bones, who thankfully finds Maze much, much less fascinating than chickens and rabbits.
