From what I have read on here, sand too easily causes impaction if ingested by your Tortoise by accident, so sand is not a good idea for a substrate.

Careful of the little rocks too, my tortoise likes to pick out the few rocks in her dirt and eat them for fun..she has a hard time pooping the bigger ones out, and it could cause blockage. i changed my dirt.

The echo earth gets a little expensive, so maybe mix echo earth with top soil, I use that for my Boxie and it helps keep things moist when lightly hosed once a day. Love the room I bet your guy will be able to use it for years to come! I'd recommend a few places to hide as your guy is tiny still and would love to be able to get out of the sun so he doesn't overheat. Maybe a little burrow by the water bowl when you remove the sand, dig down a little, put down three bricks like so I _I With the blank side being the opening and lay some plank wood over the top to keep it from caving in and put dirt over it, this'll keep your guy happy and cool on hot days.

I wish you two many happy years together!
