Hi all, its now time to unveil our sulcata hatchlings as promised. They are all from the same clutch. They are turning 5 weeks tomorrow. There names are Wakko, Yakko and Dot. In the pic of all three of them together from left to right are Wakko, Dot and Yakko. Wakko weighed approx. 20 grams when I weighed him 10 days ago, today he weighs 44 grams and is 2 1/8" long. Yakko weighed approx. 20 grams when I weighed him 10 days ago, today he weighs 42 grams and is 2 1/8" long. Dot weighed approx. 20 grams when I weighed her 10 days ago, today she weighs 35 grams and is 2" long. I think they are underweight but I may just be a worry wart lol @Tom help me out. They are being housed all to your specifics except the tank we have them in is small, we are working on a 100gal tank to put them in as we speak. They get outside for sun 4 times a week also. I'm going to start adding some mazuri to there weekly diet and hope they eat it lol. They get Bermuda grass, mulberry leaves, opuntia, collards, romaine, radichio, purple kale, endive, dandelion greens and whatever else I can come up with. They also get calcium and a multi vitamin supplement 2 times a week. I'm hoping I'm doing everything right, its been a looooooong time since I had a sulcata hatchling let alone 3 lol. I am all ears for extra help.

I don't want to rain on your parade, but I always think its better to have more info, rather than remain blissfully ignorant. At least that's how I feel…

My sulcata babies hatch at 35-39 grams. If these guys were only 20 grams 10 days ago, I fear that they were terribly dehydrated. If they went from 20 to 40+ in 10 days, that tells me you've got them rehydrated and now we all have to hope no damage was done. Time will tell. If they grow and get past 50-60 grams in the next few weeks, you will be able to breathe a sigh of relief.

I think the 100 gallon tank will work great for a few months. I use that size frequently.

Be sure to use calcium and the vitamin supplement on different days. The way you worded it made it seem like you used both at the same time.

Thanks for the pics and keep us posted.

Nice Animaniacs! XD Very cute photos -- sulcata babies are always so precious!!

I can't help but promote www.thetortoisetable.org.uk since they have some great info on the herbivorous tortoise diets. :)
