If you go to the search section and type in russian outdoor enclosures you will likely get a cornucopia of options to look through....happy building ;)

You want a hide and shade so your tort doesnt overheat.
and possibly plant edible items and grasses.

Most Russian torts like dandelions. Try to put some in your enclosure.

In the PNW we are more worried about sun, lol. But that is correct, both shade and sun, throughout the day, are important.
Take precautions to prevent digging out. If you don't like digging trenches, a 'raised bed' enclosure works well;
exterior plywood sides* (for example) with heavy duty garden fencing tacked onto the bottom. Flip it over and fill with safe soil.
Cover one side with a piece of wood for shade.
Make a frame top over the rest with chicken wire or galvanized wire tacked to 2x2" or 1x2" pieces of wood for the frame, hinge the frame to one side, and you have a fairly secure enclosure.

*If you go to places like home depot, they will cut a 4x8 piece of exterior plywood into 3 sections the long way, 16" each. Cut one in half, and you have a 4x8' enclosure.
You can also choose to use cement blocks, more than one level will be needed. Be sure to stagger them for stability.
