Hi all,
I want to make an outdoor enclosure for my little Peewee, who will be 1.5 years old in April, and he's a hermann's. I will make the enclose completely safe from predators, but what are the chances of tortoises spending their days outside getting mites?? I can't stand the thought of bringing him out and bringing mites and whatever else inside!! thoughts??

I know that it's un-natural for tortoises to be captive, however, they've lived outside for millennia. I think a mite or two won't be the end of the world for the tortoise. I've never noticed mites on my outdoor tortoises, however, I have all kinds of little thingeys in my indoor habitats.

To directly answer your question, the chance of mites is very slim.

If you are concerned about bringing anything in from the outdoors, simply give your tortoise a warm soak on the way in before putting him back into his enclosure. Anything on him will be washed off.
