Our supplier has never mentioned anything about any of his going over seas. Certainly possible though.

Yes, I have considered the source where that information came from which is why I said "or so I was told", but I do think it is not only possible but probable which is why I brought it up. I just can't imagine why we are not seeing more on the market from the hundreds that have been sold and distributed over the years that there aren't other people out there with (is F2 the right word?) breeding stock. I guess it is possible that they are keeping a low profile too...the first seems more likely to me.

Do you know how long his adults have been producing?

 

[Tom]

Since the early 90's. He bought them as adult imports in 1990. Started with 10. I know he had eggs in the first few years, and babies soon after. Those babies started reproducing after about 6-7 years, so by around 2000 at the latest. So he now has the original adults, F1 adults, and F2 adults producing too. He produces around 200-300 a year. Ours are a mix of all of these.

Interesting. So now 23ish years later, there should be a few F3 adults producing too...I'm really surprised we don't see them all too often and in larger numbers.

Me too. Very perplexing. I do see and hear of individuals all over the place. I know of around a dozen off hand around the country, but I am not sure of the source and most of them are just mixed in with regular leopards, breeding away......

On a good note, you, me, Elliot, Dennis, Tess, Yvonne, and a few others will remedy this situation in the next few years. I have plans to bring in a bunch of these other adults that I have spoken of, give them some time to purge the babcocki genetic material, and integrate them into the breeding program after a few years.

I wonder about this. My supplier has been producing 100s every year since the early 90s. Any idea why we don't already have a ton of them? Seems like the trend we are noticing right now should have happened long ago.

I have thought the same thing as well, and I have always assumed it was due to exporting. I almost didn't get the group I have because they were going overseas with about 100 others...or so I was told.

Yes! After so many years with my Russians I feel like I'm ready to take on a new challenge. I think I mentioned to you Tom, I can only find babcocki or at best hybrids around here, but I'm really jonesing for some real P.P. I took on the little deformed hybrid Chance in order to get some hands on experience with Leo's. So far he is doing great and growing nice and smooth. I almost emailed you I was so nervous about him!
