Ok so I'm scoping out different areas to build a outdoor enclosure as a temporary spot until a bigger enclosure is needed. This is just brainstorming. So this is a polycarbonate patio we built off of our master bedroom. I was thinking if I happen to buy a hatchling or juvenile redfoot I could build a 10x5 pen for it. It is well protected from predators and doesn't get direct sunlight because we have a shade cloth over the top.
Of course, I would put in everything necessary for proper health. I really like the look of the landscape timbers and I guess I would put some kind of liner to keep the substrate from leaching out of the bottom.
I love this area because it's safe & we love sitting out there and it would give us something to watch and enjoy. On the opposite side of the patio we have furniture and a fire pit. Later as it need more space we would move it to a larger area in the yard. I'm in San Diego, so as you know we have good weather. Could a hatchling start off there if I had a ceramic heating element in a warm hide box?

I think it would be fine and your idea to use landscape timber and a liner will work. I would still have some type of protection for predators that might get in from above.

I think that's a great idea. I can clearly see it all planted and decorated with a redfoot or two in it.
