Hi, turtle lovers!
Pic4Turtle is a social platform based on photos of sea turtles. Everyone can use a smartphone to take a photo of a sea turtle. The software will identify the species of the turtle and store the geolocation and date/time of the photo. This is only the first step: the user will enter a global social network about sea turtles and talk with expert specialists.
Pic4Turtle is free and it will always be free for users and conservation organizations or projects.
In our vision, environmental awareness and education is the key for starting a global change toward a more sustainable world. Sea turtles are strongly endangered animals that trigger emotional reactions in public opinion and they are backed by the intense passion of the sea turtles community. So, they can be the natural ambassadors of the oceans. Why don’t we use the power of technology and social networking to support this cause?
The photo is just the starting point. Our plan is to evolve the platform, together with the community, to build a complete tool for environmental education. We think this can finally unite who really cares about the conservation of oceans and environment.
