When I first got Flash I noticed the top of his head looked like he was scabbing or something =\ Can anyone tell me if this is normal?

Thanks guys.

Is it sore? Or is it just flaky and dry?

If it's just flaky and dry it's not a problem. Tortoises are reptiles and shed their skin just like snakes... except snakes do it all in one go. Tortoises shed gradually and can spend a lot of time looking tatty. Don't pick or pull at it, just let it rub off naturally.

If there's signs of sore skin, then it should be treated with a small amount of antiseptic ointment.

It just looks less red than when I first got him. Like it's a scab now. I just soak him every morning but I don't touch it. I don't want to pick at anything on him. What kind of ointment would I need?

It sounds like its healing in which case leave well alone. There's no point disturbing it.

If it were an open sore, I'd apply antiseptic, but not if it's healing nicely. Judge it like a human graze.

Oh ok. Well thank you very much. I just needed to make sure he's ok.

Looks like a bruise or a cut that is healing.
As long as its getting better you are in the clear.
