Hey all,

So Franklin's plastron is flaking and was wondering if anybody has any experience with that.

Background: we had a bout of shell fungus a couple months back, I'm pretty sure I got it all taken care of.

Long story short, I hadn't checked in a while due to moving and life, and I checked this morning and her shell was flaking back just at the top layer. My thought is the fungus may have gotten under the top layer? I trimmed the peaking off before thinking about taking pictures so here is the aftermath of this morning...

Any suggestions are welcome! Thanks!

I would continue the treatment for a little while longer. Also, discontinue the moist substrate for a little while. Put some moist sphagnum moss in her hiding place, but have the overall substrate dry. When you put the ointment on the plastron, try to push it up under those parts of the scute where you've cut off the flaking part. Water turtles top layer of keratin flake off like what you are seeing, but it doesn't happen with tortoises. So I'm guessing the shell rot is still active.

Thanks Yvonne I figured as much. She's been dry docked and I'll keep with the treatment.
