Hello, I am a newbie and I am hoping someone will be able to answer 2 questions for me?!

Question one is what are these swirly things on the yellow parts of the shell? I am very worried what is causing these, I just noticed them and I looked at previous pictures and I did not see the swirls. I do have a Reptile Vet appointment on Friday and today is Monday but I am a going out of my mind and can't wait till Friday to know what this is. I would appreciate any information at all.

Second question is what is the pinkish stuff on his shell? He came like that and I have been wondering ever since and nobody seems to have an idea why it was put there, I tried to scrape it off but its pretty solid.

My Tortoise is a Hermann's Tortoise, almost one year old, I am using zoo med powersun mercury vapor uvb bulb, he is active and eating mostly zoo med grasses for Hermann's Tortoises, dandelions, and watercrest. Sorry I am a newbie and I am not sure what other information I should give as well I am going to attempt 2 picture uploads fingers crossed!

Thank you for your help! :tort: Tortie pic 1.jpgTortie pic 2.jpg

I don't know what the swirls are but it's completely normal as far as I'm away.
The pink stuff is nail polish the breeders mark their tortoises with. Some fingernail polish remover will remove. My Hermanns had it too and it was a little tough to remove but it all came off.ImageUploadedByTortForum1385434330.858600.jpgImageUploadedByTortForum1385434380.481908.jpg

Ditto, the white is normal. The pink, I'm not sure if it's polish or if he got too close to a heat element and got a little burn? Hopefully just polish. It will ware off if it is. Not sure polish remover is safe, it's quite harsh.

Thank you guys so much for the fast replies, pictures and information! I am sure its probably nail polish as I was able to scrap a little here and there when he had some patience for it, I will try to remove it tomorrow! So happy the swirls don't seem to alarm anyone. I have no words to say but thank you guys!!!

What a wonderful site!
