Is it OK to have our powersun uv 100 watt light bulb hanging this way with high humidity?

On the light bulb box you have instructions showing intensity plotted against length from the light source. From what I can judge your bulb is too high to give a proper UV amount. Hang it lower. Is this your only heat source? Measure the temperature under it, how high is it?

I agree looks to high and it should be in a large metal dome fixture with a ceramic socket. All the heat is just going up.
Also, what is in the plastic red cup?

The Powersun paperwork doe's not mention anything about high humidity. I have mine in Zilla dome fixtures and their paperwork does say not to use in high humidity. I don't think it's a safety threat, but rather, the domes will start to rust over time in a humid environment.

Humidity in combination with high temperature can interfere with electric cords/connections inside the ceramic fixture and over time added resistance may cause it stop working. It's not only the dome that will suffer.

I don't really use the powersun for heat and it's 13 inches off the ground. It's primary use is just for the UV and light. Which reminds me I need to drop the regular UV light down 2". I use the sun greenhouse effect to raise the temperature inside to 95+ degrees during the day naturally.
Wellintgton the red cup protect's my temperature probe which runs the heater.

Okay, I get the cup, good idea. However, having the whole enclosure getting 95 that's not good. Specially, I'm sure it could go even higher. Is there any cooler spot? The basking spot should be 95-100 but the rest should be 80 and this is all with 80% humidity.
Nice looking enclosure, but you need to get it cooler other then the basking area.

The reason I have the Powersun without the black hood because I cut it up for something else. I'm just trying to duplicate nature. Sun comes up get hot then sun goes down and gets cold, well 80deg cold. Lol!
Thanks for all the help.

However, in the wild the torts would go some place where it wasn't 95 hot. In the wild there is, can be heavy shade cover, wind, things that will make it cooler then the hot of the day. That's also why they won't graze during the hottest part of the day. They hide out during that time where it's cooler. If there is no cooler spot for your tort to go, your keeping it trapped in a hot oven all day with no place for it to find a cooler spot.

I think the way you've mounted it is fine. Those things get so hot that the humidity will be zero near it any time it is on.

My concern is that MVBs run too hot and it will overheat the whole enclosure.

Hey Jeff, looking good man. I am curious about how the solo cup protects your probe. And from what?
Please elaborate :)
I'm not Jeff, but I'd think maybe he's keeping a local college frat house party from thinking it's a kegger party!

I agree, without any control over temperature inside that enclosure it's likely that on the way you will loose your tortoise to a heat stroke. If you raise overall temperature to 95 you will cook the baby inside.

Cowboy_Ken: it's my spare kegger cup, You always have to have a back up
Ramsey: I use the red cup to cover the probe to keep radiant heat and heat from the fan blower off the probe. It keeps more of an accurate temperature.

OK, I can check this one off to a rookie a mistake! My daughters will never let it go
Came home from the zoo to the 90° Enclosure, and both leopard's were Hiding out. My problem is I'm letting the greenhouse that they're in climb up to and above 95° during the day which turns heats there enclosure up. I was under the impression was a good thing but I was wrong.
Currently I was only runing in the fluorescent UV bulb for only 4+ hours and a 75W basking bulb. The basking bulb burned out and I upgraded to the Powersun.
I guess my next question is: should I run the Powersun or the fluorescent UV bulb during the day or try them both.

Your enclosure is vet nice and specious also it needs a basking spot and UV. Powersun gives both still a would observe were your torts hang out. I do understand that you will aim in correct overall temperature not 95 F :). With no what you call greenhouse effect I don't think you will be able to heat the whole space with a single 100 watt powersun. As a basking hang it as low as enough to get 95 under. With overall let's say 80-85 torts will like to hang out under power sun and will get UV exposure as well. For mine leo indoor enclosure 2m X 2 m i used additional UV over food plate just to be sure that in the winter he got enough UV. For heat I used 100 watt powersun and CHE on thermostat.

Update:
Over this last week I've keep the temps down to 88+-2 deg on the hot side and 84 on the cool side of there enclosure. I turn off the Powersun off for 2/3 hours midday to keep the heat down and then it kicks back on till 7pm.
I'm also looking into getting a T5 bulb for additional light for the plant

Thanks for all your help:)
