pre made food

when i bought my little guy they had pre made tortoise pellets. I have heard that they are bad for them and that they are good for them. I am so confused. I want to give him pellets,hay,roman lettuce,and dandilions. is that i good diet. And he would get it every other day.

Because he's just a very small tortoise you can buy one or two heads or bunches this week and when that's all gone, buy something different next time. That way you are giving him a nice variety of different dark, leafy greens.

The MFG'd food is ok as an occasional offering, or when you have nothing else to feed, but not as a steady diet (my opinion). I use Mazuri Tortoise Diet once a week for my Aldabran tortoises. The rest of the time they only eat the grass, weeds and plants that grow in their pen.
