I did an experiment with my new little redfoot hatchlings and humidity. I had their digital hygrometer right on their substrate (spag moss on top of eco-earth). The relative temps were right about 80.

On the substrate (tort level - keeping in mind they are usually buried in the moss) the relative humidity was consistently over 90%.

2 Inches above that, I set the guage for a few hours on a block. Humidity was about 80%.

4 inches above the substrate gave me about 65%.

The point being, keeping the temps warm and the substrate moist really kicked up the humidity at the most important level. And as I measured farther from the substrate, the humidity dropped significantly. It level out to about 50% as the ambient humidty in the room.
