Protecting outdoor torts

How do people protect their big torts in outdoor enclosures from the elements? For us in south Louisiana that means hurricanes, which is the reason I plan for my first tort to be a small one: so it can accompany us on evacuation. Aldabraman, you live in Florida, right? You get more hurricanes than we do- how do you protect your herd?

i live on the mississippi coast so i kno what you mean about hurricanes. if it got so bad as i need to protect them from hurricanes i would just bring the animal with me or inside. how many torts are you talking about though

I don't have any yet- still in the research phase. I was just wondering what people do to protect their big outdoor torts from severe weather. I keep thinking about a small tort that i can keep mostly inside so I know they're safe, but I kind of agree with the people who say the animals should live outside as much as possible because it's more natural. Hard to decide what to do. I am considering a Hermann's.

We don't have hurricanes here, just earthquakes. I think if the big one hits, I will try to get under one of my sulcatas. Probably the safest place to be.

Thankfully no hurricanes here....although a couple years ago we did get six days of non stop heavy rain....really thought we were going to float away....

I only worry about flash fires here in the desert....they can start and fly so quickly....just try to keep an eye out and about our area for signs of fire during the end of summer....
