Tuesday-Friday i feed them 7am and sometimes a treat when i get out of work at 3.
Saturday-Monday i feed them around 12 because i sleep late.
and sometimes during my work week i feed them when i get home at 3.

is this alright? i know they need the light to digest food so is feeding in the second half of the day a bad idea?

i recently knew of a chameleon who died because he was always fed later in the day, so his meal sat undigested in his stomach and caused problems over time. I'd assume it'd be worse having insects undigested versus greens, am I wrong? has anyone ever had a problem like that in a tortoise?

I think it is fine. I have crazy work hours and my tortoises just get fed when they get fed. This should not cause you any problems.

There is no way for me to know, but having kept many chameleons in the past, this does not seem like a likely cause of death for a chameleon either. I think it is coincidence. I fed my chameleons at all hours too, and they were fine. Never lost any of them, even the "difficult" species.

I have chameleons and I have always tried to feed them before noon...you're right they do need to be warm to properly digest :)

I'm sure it causes no harm.

But I've found that reptiles as well as most pets become accustomed to a routine. I like to turn the lights on when I get home at 7:30 am, soak to get rid of the poop that appears in the enclosure if I wait too long, then feed.

I dunno. I just feel like if I wait too long it will be sitting there in a soiled enclosure wondering what's going on with the grub.

I think the operative here is heat to digest food. If light equals heat, and no light equals cold, then yes, later feeding could cause digestion problems. But, I think this would cause other care problems as well for any animal that is from the tropic zone.
