OK,

I have read a little up on it now...

I only came across the term when I joined here.

Our tort, which I will try and post up some pics soon, is 5 yrs old and has what looks like very mild pyramiding. I know it is bad if it is very progressive.

But surely some pyramiding is very normal, surely they shouldn't be smooth all over.

All the nature programs etc the torts have some pyramiding...

Just a little concerned that we might be doing something slightly wrong, but the info on leo's is very different depending where you look!

Hi Bobby9779:

I looked for an introductory thread from you, but couldn't find one, so...

Welcome to the Tortoise Forum!!

Is your name "Bobby?"

May we know where you are?

Its truly hard to raise a sulcata or leopard without any pyramiding at all. The people who seem to have the best luck at it are in Arizona. What we're recently learning is that if you keep them in a more humid environment during the first couple years of their growth, from egg to about 2 years of age, they will be fairly smooth.

A little bit of pyramiding is only cosmetic. Its when you see the pyramiding along with MBD (metabolic bone disease) that you need to fix it.

Hey,

Cheers for that.

I am over the pond in UK.

But this seems the best place for info out there.

Hello and welcome.

Your icon pic is pretty small, but if that's your leopard he looks pretty good. Either way at five years old the pattern is pretty well set.

I would call that normal pyramiding. I have yet to see a perfectly smooth leopard tortoise that wasn't of the South African variety.
