What is a ramshorn snail. The reason I ask is because I have two types of garden snail. One is the typical gardren snail the other I have not seen anywhere else. It appeared about 6 years ago. after my next door nieghbor planted some red apple ground cover. It has a cone shaped curly shell about a half inch long.

Ramshorn snails are an aquatic snail that is found rampant in the aquarium trade. They often come in as hitchhikers on aquarium plants.

There are many color phases, and I have reds, leopards, purple leopards, browns, red-footed chocolate, pink, and blue myself. The scientific name is Planorbis rubrum.

Many people breed them as food items for snail eating fish such as Puffers and Loaches, and they have a tendency to disappear quickly in the presence of snail eating turtles as well ;)

I would love to see pics of the snails you are talking about.
