You probably saw Irish Moss or Scottish Moss...did it have little flowers in it? I don't think they are toxic, as I have them in all my set ups. Don't put it directly under the heat light. You wouldn't want the water dish under the heat light either.

TerryO,
Do you pot your plants or do they just grow in the soil/peat mix that you use?
Do you recommend putting the dirt down on the bare floor or do you put something like pebbles for drainage?
Making my tort table that is 4x8...that is alot of dirt!

Wow...that is really coming along now. It looks great.
Mary...I just put the little pots right in the substrate. I only water right into the pot. I try to keep the substrate dry. When he comes out to eat I mist him and the plants. I don't put any stones or anything on the bottom of the viv for drainage, but I do have about 6 in. of soil mixed with peat moss, and then I sprinkle Cyprus mulch on top. I only water the plants once a week. It's very humid in there, and I mist them a lot.

Looking good! I can't give specific advice as I don't keep redfoots. One comment I have is that bok choy is not an ideal green. Personally I'd never feed it, but most people would say it should be limited. Its pretty starchy and similar to cabbage. I'd stick to the weeds, greens, good lettuces for the greens part of the diet.

I recommend a quarantine period for any new tort (kept separate for 6 months or so). Have each tort get a fecal test for parasites, then another one 2-3 months later, then yearly. Always plan to have separate enclosures, and if they can be kept together that is great. Sometimes two torts don't get along, there will be emotional or physical bullying (if one isn't growing as much as the other, this can be because of bullying), or later on, if you have a male and female the male can harass the female, or two males can fight. There is no reason torts need a "friend" as they are solitary creatures who only come together to mate. Only get a second tort if that is what you want. Sometimes its best to settle into the care of the first tort before getting a second. Even the best enclosure will need some tweaking as time goes on. Good luck!

omg! My cage hit 100! Guess I can't turn off my ac yet. Two of my torts were on the side that was 90. My bigger tort was on the 100 degree side? Why wouldn't he move to the colder side?

What did you use to prop it up. How heavy is the tub? Mine us way heavy and I worry about a sturdy enough stand. Where did you get the tub. I looks like it may be more efficient than a a regular 50 gallon tote
