RedFoot, Black Lines on Top Shell?

Hi guys! I’ve always read the forums but never signed up so hello out there!

Question for you guys! My boyfriend and I adopted a horribly malnourished and neglected Red Foot, so before we start pointing fingers at his pyramiding i assure you, this was not done by us .

With that being said I’m going to drop two pictures one from the spring of my little guy and one now.

Please help me as I’m not familiar with this, he has these black lines on his shell, almost like someone took a sharpie and drew around all his little pyramids. He didn’t have this in the spring, and I was unsure if they go through a process of shedding to an extent? Or if he’s just a growing boy?
