I am looking to buy 2 young redfoots and I am not a huge fan of ordering animals online so does anyone know of a breeder in tennessee? I live in the Nashville area but I would be willing to drive 2-3 hours

Oh my...do WE know a Tennesee redfooted breeder? Take a look at Terry Kilgore's site - turtletary.com

He's a member here.

well he responded back to me and no offense but he actually was a bit rude. Are there any members from the tennessee that can help me out? I guess I would be willing to drive to Alabama or a surrounding state if I have to

Don't take offense to Terry. He has excellent stock and has a lot of knowledge. He's a quirky guy though. The first time I ever dealt with him I received a lecture on taking Jesus Christ as my savior.

Watch the for sale and adoption sections. Redfoots come up a lot and there are respectable breeders on this site and torts can be shipped easily. If I could give you some advice that helped me when I was first purchasing tortoises: if the person won't send you pictures of the actual animal you are buying and/or actually speak to you, don't bother. They are in it for the money and will sell/tell you anything to make a profit.

Sorry your first experience with this group didn't go to well. Please give it another chance. There are great people here!

You will not find anyone better than Terry in Tennessee when it comes to redfoots. He is just very serious about what he does and wants to make sure you are educated in redfoot care. He helped me out with a few things when I needed help. He hatches out some healthy little beauties.

Once you understand Terry's personality, you realize that it is just his quirkiness and nothing to do with you personally.

He truly cares for his animals, produces some great redfoots, and has helped a lot of people out over the years.

it wasnt that. there was just a misunderstanding..im not from tennessee..I just moved here recently and I didnt know about the law. he wasnt very specific and I thought when he said he ships everywhere outside the state of tennessee that he does pick ups. I got a rude comment back from his but anyways we talked some more and he gave me some other breeders in surrounding states. so there was just a big misunderstanding...all is fine

I am not from Tenn. Would you mind sharing what the law is there just out of curiousity?

Good Luck with your hunt.

To my understanding, its illegal to own (or sell or buy or trade, etc.) any chelonian of any size within the state. I remember it when I was working at a petstore in Chattanooga several yrs ago. We could not carry tortoises or turtles at all. Period.

I would presume that Terry was either grandfathered in, or has some other exemption from this law, but it obviously restricts him from selling his stock within his own state, because anyone purchasing from him locally would be in violation. Hence why he can only sell out of state.

Where in TN are you from? There's a member here in Pensacola, FL who just their first clutch of redfoots. Not sure how far you're willing to drive.
