Relaxing on a brick

Joe in his winter quarters enjoys climbing and has several house bricks to scramble over (he is quite big)

The ones almost under his heat lamp get warm and he likes to lay on them with his legs dangling all round... not a brilliant picture, but you get the idea!

That is funny because their leg's are alway's longer than I think!

His substrate just newspaper... and house bricks. A tort this size is a major cleaning exercise when he toilets... and it's the only practical substrate. The house bricks give him something to clamber over... they're the only climbing thing he doesn't attempt to mate with. (The joys of owning a mature male!)

On the vet's advice (Zoo vet) he's not confined to quarters all day long and goes out late morning for a rampage round the garden no matter what the weather. When he's cooled down, a couple of hours later, he comes back in. It's less stressful for all of us.

This is his 'tortoise table'. My dining table and chairs have gone in the garage and he's got a cosy den while we have to eat in the kitchen or wrap up warm in the conservatory!

Lovely tortoise-quite a good size too for his type.Looks very happy.
maybe you can publish some funny stories about him as he sure sounds like he has some character!!
