Hi All, Thus far I have my NuNu in a 4x2x2 PVC enclosure with pro products RHP on one side (sized by Bob at Pro Products). Takes about 35-40% of the area in left rear corner. This is controlled by a Herpstat 4 which also controls heat tape under 3-4" of orchid bark substrate. It is only there to supplement the heat panel during the colder months here in Canada. Prob for the RHP panel is 4" below the panel and that reading is pretty on par to the surface temp on the substrate, verified by infrared gun as well as with digital probe laying on the substrate. Measurements within aa degree or two.
I know Tom recommends only to use RHP for night ambient temps and to use a incandescent bulb only. I would like to get some Other's experience and if you do it this way. I'm all about natural and believe it is more natural to create a season where it gets warmer towards July and colder after Aug (just as Romania, Greece, etc. experience). My believe is not to have one set point full-time during spring, summer, fall. So currently I have a daytime high of 84F for warm end of the enclosure and a 70F for nighttime (via RHP and heat tape supplement). Also running Mistking with set point of 80% full time. I have only have my little one for a week and he is doing really well. Wakes up around 9am with his head coming out of the bushes...LOL and then very active for the entire day, eating, soaking, pooping every second day. He isn't eating a ton, but so far seems to be doing well.
Now here comes the question, go to only a heat bulb and am I missing something? During months of Jul-Aug. my daytime high is planned to be 95F while also increasing my night time low (only on the warm end) to likely 74F (as an example). We all know there are different ways to do things, but is there something I am missing with the above logic? I would just rather have a nice warmer end of half the enclosure vs a round area. He's got shade and there is a good 10F difference from both ends and does not seem to be "sticking" to the warm end all day or to the cold, so that tells me he is doing well and comfortable (unless they won't seek their wanted temp, but can't imagine that to be true).
Appreciate any advice and experience of people who do this way as well! Cheers
