I'm going to be building an outdoor enclosure for my Russian tortoise, I was just wondering about how big should it be and do I need a top on it, it will be on my screened in back porch so I don't have I worry about anything getting him.

If your tort will be secure, and it can't climb out, I guess it would be okay to not have a cover. But it would still be recommended. I'm not sure what other members recommend for size, but 8'x5' is a good place to start.

8'x4-5' is great, or even bigger, or in an 'L' shape, for interest.
You won't need a top if you add a lip around it to prevent climbing out, and if no pets, etc., can get in there.

Will it get enough sun on the porch? Screen does not allow much UV in.
